Why do you plan to teach in China, is that better than teaching Chinese students online? I knew people making 75$ an hour teaching English online about 12 years ago. They learned how to find their own customers. I would like to do it but one needs a good internet connection; one company wouldn't hire me because I had only wifi.
I am not a big fan of teaching online. I've done it and the money is just not there. At least I have been unable to find it. It's gotten to the point where companies won't pay because they can hire a Filipino with perfect English for much less. But China, Taiwan, Thailand, and others still want native speakers and pay well for in person instruction. Plus, I wanted to teach in a University which would give me experience for my future plans plus give me time to write. It also gives me an excuse to get out and travel. I've been stuck in a rut and this gives me the motivation to do it.
